Passing Drug Tests

As far as I know, drug testing has always been used for screening purposes for employment and license for driving applications. Recently, there was a law implementing random drug testing in the workplace and making it legal. It has been very controversial, as human rights activists argue that it would be an invasion of privacy. Lawmakers argue though, with the help of medical advice from doctors, that random drug testing will be the only way to reveal if a person has been using illegal drugs for the past three months. Drugs has been proven to stay in the blood and hair longer than in the urine and body fluids.

Remember the controversial fight between boxing champions Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao? The match didn’t push though as Pacquiao would not agree to a drug test minutes before the fight but was amenable to a drug test even after immediately the fight. He said it might ruin his game, as he is extremely queasy about having his blood drawn. Mayweather has been hinting that Pacquiao is using drugs (steroids) and for that he was slapped a libel case by the former.

One can now pass a random drug testing or even a schedule one by taking the drug detox test – you can buy detox kits that get rid of toxins in urine, hair and saliva. You can find out the toxin levels in your body in those kits too.

Top Allergy Foods in Children

Parents need to be informed about allergies in kids and their hazardous effects. I have a friend who has a daughter who a severe allergic reaction to peanuts and everything that has peanuts on it (if it comes in contact even with her skin – no ingestion – she flares up immediately). They have been very careful with her and have informed all communities where her daughter is always at including school and church about it. She also has a medi-bracelet with instructions how to give her allergy relief. You should understand that allergies can be fatal as it tends to block the airways during reactions.

Here are the top allergy foods in kids:
1. Milk

2. Egg

3. Soy

4. Wheat

5. Peanut

6. Seafoods

Controversies in the Sports Field.

The most controversial thing an athlete could ever face is the allegations of drug abuse or use of performance enhancing drugs such as a testosterone booster. Not only is it a good way to boost athletic performance and increase size, but a testosterone booster can alleviate symptoms such as erectile dysfunction caused by health problems. But in the sports field, it would be considered unfair for those who have trained under “natural” methods with hard work and discipline.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

If you are spending too much time on the computer, typing and clicking on your mouse, in the wrong position, and are experiencing joint pain specifically wrist pain, you might be a candidate for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS).

What is it?image

Carpus is a word derived from the Greek word "karpos" which means "wrist." The wrist is surrounded by a band of fibrous tissue that normally functions as a support for the joint. The tight space between this fibrous band and the wrist bone is called the carpal tunnel. The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel to receive sensations from the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the hand. Any condition that causes swelling or a change in position of the tissue within the carpal tunnel can squeeze and irritate the median nerve. Irritation of the median nerve in this manner causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and the middle fingers, a condition known as "carpal tunnel syndrome."

Initial treatment usually includes rest, immobilization of the wrist in a splint, and occasionally ice application. Patients whose occupations are aggravating the symptoms should modify their activities. For example, computer keyboards and chair height may need to be adjusted to optimize comfort. These measures, as well as periodic resting and range of motion stretching exercise of the wrists can actually prevent the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome that are caused by repetitive overuse. Underlying conditions or diseases are treated individually.

If you are like me and have erratic sleeping schedules, you probably would have deark circles under eyes like me. While having dark undereye circles are probably more genetic than acquired, here are some tips to prevent them from happening. Remember, prevention is always better than treatment!

Pollan’s simple eating wisdom

While most people are looking for the best (and easiest + fastest) ways to lose weight (www.bestwaytoloseweight.org), I chanced up some simple eating wisdom foodie and journalist Michael Pollan in his book "Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual."

Here are some points in his book that I want to highlight:

No. 1: The "Western diet," of processed foods and fats and sugars, is not good for the body.

No. 2: Societies and groups that eat a diet rooted in tradition, even if it is an American Indian diet built around maize and beans or a high-fat Inuit diet, overall do not suffer the same diseases seen in Americans today.

Eat food: Real food. Not edible food-like substances, as Pollan describes them.

Eat your colors:
Fruits and veggies are naturally colorful, an indication of the nutrients in them. A real food rainbow.

Don’t eat foods made in places where the workers have to wear surgical caps.

Don’t feed yourself with "food" from the same place where you buy fuel for your car.

Shop the peripheries of the supermarket:
The produce, dairy, and meats are on the outside. The Pop Tarts, chips, sugary cereals and other processed junk tends to be on the inside aisles (coffee, oatmeal and whole grain breads are a few exceptions).

Don’t eat anything Grandma or her Grandma wouldn’t recognize:

Avoid foods with ingredients a third-grader cannot pronounce:
Disodium guanylate, anyone? Sounds like a spelling bee tie breaker, huh?

Get out of the supermarket when you can:
Those produce markets and local spots have real food, real nuts, locally made baked goods. Real food.

If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t.

It’s not food if it’s called the same in every language:
Think Big Mac, Cheetos.

Stop eating before you’re full:
Want to know why the French tend to be leaner even while eating cheese and bread? They follow this practice. So should you. So leave the pooch pants and the adjustable waistbands to Grandpa Fred. Japanese, Chinese and Indian Ayurevedic cultures all advise eating only until you’re  between 70 and 80 percent full. It shows in their lower rates of overweight and obese citizens.

Leave something on your plate
: Mom isn’t around anymore to make you clean it, and this goes hand in hand with the rule above.

Treat treats as just that
: No cake every night. Ice cream only as a special occasion. If you need dessert everynight, plan it into your caloric intake and make it usually healthy and only occasionally decadent.

The Battle Against the Bulge

Everyone it seems are now fighting the battle against post-holiday bulges. Everyone is on a diet, renewing gym subscriptions or enrolling in one (might need some help like payday loans on that!)

Here are some foods that might help you eat healthier:

  1. Hummus
  2. Grilled Bell Peppers Salad
  3. Whole Wheat Pasta
  4. Oven-baked Tuna Steak with Shallot Confit on Braised Lentils, Rapini and Olive oil-Fried Potatoes
  5. Grape Dessert Cup

Lasik.

That’s how I am lately – body, soul and spirit. I have been working non-stop since the new year started and while I still have time for idle play and creativity, it is hard when play and art become work. I hate being forced out on me. Plus I am frustrated. I am frustrated in not being able to produce the pages I’ve been itching to do and make and record. In times like this, earning money really becomes a priority. I have been praying hard that a bit of my workload eases up on me in time so I can pursue what I really want to do.

And that involves spending time away from the computer and the internet. Lately, I have been working around 12 hours a day that my husband doesn’t even complain when, just a few minutes after he arrived from work, I ask him to take care of the kids and I close the laptop which has been open since 3AM so I can close my eyes. It turns on again by 7 or 8PM, 2 hours after turn off. It’s a good thing my eyes have not given up on me yet (my back might) or else I would save up for a Laser Eye Surgery Boston procedure since I cannot work with glasses. I feel I’m ugly wearing them and I’m the worst klutz because I always seem to break them within weeks of getting myself a new one. Laser would be the way to go! My cousin underwent laser surgery on her eyes and now she has perfect 20/20 vision! And it only took 15 minutes on each eye!
