Choosing Tiles for Your Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the busiest areas in the your home and one area that can have several different kinds of tiles. Choosing and shopping for tiles at Mainland Tile can be overwhelming and challenging. However, you need to remember that aside from aesthetics and design, tiles have different applications. For example, glossy tiles should not be used on the floor as they are not made for walking.

Decide Where it Will Be Installed
According to Freshome, there are many areas in the kitchen where you can use tiles – as a backsplash, countertop and even the kitchen floor.

Know Certain Differences Between Tile Types
Tiles for the kitchen can range from quarry, stone, cork, vinyl, bamboo, ceramic, porcelain and glass. Vinyl, cork and bamboo tiles are most commonly used in flooring. Quarry, ceramic, and porcelain are often chosen to be used for counters and floors. Glass tile is commonly reserved for walls and backsplashes.

Decide on Your Budget
Tiles can be inexpensive and expensive at the same time. You need to decide on how much you are willing to spend and be aware of the prices before envisioning what you have in your head. For example, linoleum tiles are inexpensive but custom-designed ceramic tiles aren’t. You can mix and match them so you can fall within your budget. Stores help you estimate these kinds of budget concerns.

Design Tip: You can mix an inexpensive ceramic backsplash tile with either stone or glass. You can use stone or glass mosaics, cut them into strips and add them to your backsplash design.

Consider your family’s lifestyle
For example, if you have small children, you need to choose a floor tile that is durable and non-slippery, able to withstand heavy traffic, spills, pets (if you have one) and constant cleaning. You should also consider how much of an upkeep to maintain it (whether it needs to be waxed or mopped every now and then). If you choose a wall tile for a floor the coefficient of friction (COF) will be too low, which in turn means it’s too slippery for walking. Instead choose floor tile that has a slight raised pattern, or texture to it to allow for a safer kitchen floor.

For kitchen countertops, consider maintenance and durability. You might be wise to get tiles that don’t easily crack. For example, ceramic tiles are durable and can hold up hear from cooking pans, easy to clean as well. A downside is that its surface is uneven making it crack or chip easily than others.

Things to consider when replacing Kitchen doors

Kitchen cabinet doors are some of the most frequently used doors in the house. Aside from the fact that you cook more than once a day, sometimes it takes you more than a single glance inside each cabinet to find and get all the ingredients you need for cooking. Because of this, Kitchen doors are some of the fastest to wear out. However, before you get Replacement cabinet doors for your kitchen cabinet, here are some of the things you need to consider first.

Stored kitchen products or supplies

There are different types of kitchen cabinet doors to choose from. You can choose more ventilated doors for covering non-consumable supplies like sealed plastic containers, jars, and other stand-alone storage spaces. You can choose completely sealed doors to protect consumable goods.

Kitchen surroundings

Another thing you need to consider before getting replacements is the whole kitchen surrounding. If you have a particular theme in the kitchen, then you might as well choose a replacement kitchen door that suits the theme. Otherwise, just choose based on functionality.

Kitchen door material

Replacement doors also vary in material composition. For the cabinet space that you most often use, it would be best to choose the replacement with the sturdiest material. This way, it would take longer to wear out.

Kitchen Light Fixtures

Kitchen light fixtures can transform your kitchen. Your kitchen space can be enhanced by the addition of extra kitchen light fixtures. TV in the Kitchen

image

A friend has been reading up on tv reviews on various tv’s as they plan to have one installed in the kitchen. Among the many televisions she has seen, getting an lcd tv would be the most sound and practical choice as it can be mounted on a free wall in their kitchen and it would not occupy that much space.

Kitchen Cabinets

I dream of having my dream kitchen someday. What I have right now is a makeshift kitchen right beside our laundry area. Sometimes I think it is one of the reasons why I really am not excited to cook, the lack of “ambiance” makes me lazy about cooking and certainly my makeshift kitchen does not motivate me at all.

Things are not convenient and are quite disorganized. If I had my dream kitchen it would be complete with great kitchen cabinets, a full gas range, an easy to clean kitchen and attractive counter-top and just so many other things in a well organized and functional space. I have actually been looking for kitchen cabinets as I have learned that it can be less expensive to buy kitchen cabinets online.

image

I learned you can buy kitchen cabinets online at a lower price than most furniture stores at OnlineCabinetsDirect.com. This website sells quality RTA kitchen cabinets, at a great prices. Their ready to assemble cabinets are made of solid maple wood that comes with different decorative molding, depending on the style you want. I see they have mocha deluxe, ginger deluxe, french vanilla deluxe with different finishings: black distress finish, ginger vandyke rub finish or mocha distress finish. All of these look great, but my favorite is ginger deluxe.

Oh yes, don’t worry about the assembly, they have uploaded a video on YouTube to help with assembly, and this is linked to their website. So my dream kitchen is starting to take shape, with the help of onlinecabinetsdirect.com, even if not it is only in my mind.

My White Kitchen

I still dream of owning my dream white kitchen similar to the one you see below. It may take several years before I can make it come true, but that is fine with me. It might take that long to make me like cooking and being in the kitchen as well.

But who knows? If I had a kitchen as nice as this, I might just make it my second bedroom. I love the chartreuse wall tiles and the kitchen countertop table. I envision my kids heading straight for this table once they arrive from school to tell me about their day while eating some brownies I’ve baked! (I think I will like baking better)

As it is, our kitchen is far from the picture above but I am taking tiny steps to make sure we have complete kitchen equipment. So far, we haven’t really availed of my husband’s available payday loans except for big kitchen equipment like the refrigerator and stove.
