Jack’s Loft

From what I remember, Jack’s Loft has amazing iced tea in a fishbowl so we decided to try it when we were in Eastwood over the weekend. I haven’t been to this place since 2003, I think. The food was nothing to rave about and even the iced tea did not make me happy – I still ate anyway :P. This is why I am reading accutane reviews as I have eaten too much sweets over the weekend my face is breaking out.

Cheesy sticks – bleh:

Pasta with adobo flakes – too oily:

Infamous Iced Tea:

Potato Mushroom Soup (this was the only yummy food I tasted):

I Declair: eclair with ice cream loaded with lots of whipped cream

Birthday!

Did I share about how my husband celebrated his birthday last January by drinking with his two brother who were in Singapore? This was all made possible by conference calling and the internet. Last weekend, another brother of his celebrated his birthday and while we were not able to chat with my brothers-in-law in Singapore, they did drink and capped it off with a trip to Starbucks. Fun times.

What do you do with these?

Fruit Stands

One of the many things I love about where I live is the fact that I can buy wooden swing sets at such a cheap price and there is an abundance of fresh fruits everyday. I only have to go out and buy from our neighbor who gets it from her farm lot. This way I am always guaranteed it is fresh and clean!

Fitness Update v.2

March 6-12, 2011

It was a bad week for me – food-wise.

My fitness coach aka The Slavedriver made me jog on track last Monday and it was the start of a bad week. My knees and leg bones hurt so much I pretty much wasn’t able to exercise the rest of the week. It took my dad, who is a doctor, for him to believe that at my current weight, I CANNOT run nor jog. My bones simply cannot support all my weight. Take that, I knew I was not just giving any reason!

Except for Ash Wednesday, which I fasted for, I pretty much ate anything the whole week.

The only upside to last week was that I had started to like the habit of eating cereals during breakfast. It has done me great to keep the cravings at bay and to regularize my bowel movement.

For this week I am challenging myself to start drinking water exclusively, no juices nor tea, and finally change our sofa’s upholstery fabric. :)

Hiring the Services of a Personal Injury Lawyer

It is always a hassle and inconvenience to get involved in accidents, whether it is one’s fault or not.

Sometimes the situation worsens when the responsible party doesn’t step up and honor their legal and financial obligation to pay for your medical expenses and lost wages. It is an unfortunate fact that many people simply do not want to take on the burden that they have created for you, whether it is a dog attack or a car accident. This is when you would need to hire a Austin personal injury lawyer. Talk to one today.

Fitness Update v.1

I might as well start a new category on any fitness updates I share.

I weighed myself yesterday and I found out I lost 1.8lbs in a week. I think I am right on track as the healthy way of losing weight is 2 lbs per week. If I keep this up for a year, I deserve all the trophies and awards for discipline, perseverance and determination.

A couple of notes:
1. I briskwalk around 3 to 4 times a week, usually for an hour. The husband goes with me and he alternates between running and walking. An outdoor track runs for 400m and I have a goal to walk around it ten times.
2. I still cannot run. My knees give in and my bones ache. Last Monday I had to cut even walking short since I ran for 100m and had to stop as my leg bones hurt. Something is wrong with my stride.
3. Need to do better on food choices. Still no soda for me, little sweets, no snacks. I still cannot give up rice though, as I am looking forward to it with no snacks all day.
4. Need to find a way to move more even when I’m at home. If I cannot go on a strict diet, I need to punish myself by exercising more.
5. Will be doing free weights starting next week. You got to keep up with the sag!

Training for Your First Marathon

The secret to completing your first marathon is training. A successful marathon training has three factors: being extremely motivated, training properly and maintaining proper nutrition.

So how do you get started?
Before you sign up for a marathon, start training or even consult a doctor, know everything you need to know about marathons and training for it. More than anything else, you should know that marathons test your physical limits and endurance. It is above all things, a mind challenge. You should be able to control your mind over what your body says, and in the process push your body to what it can really do. Signing up for a marathon is like planning for a trip. You really need to prepare for it. If you want to be able to finish it, experts advise at least six months of training, especially if you are a novice runner.

Consult your doctor and ask for the go-signal to start training for the marathon. Your doctor might advise you on what you need to be cautious about. Once you have the go signal, you would need to invest in the proper running equipment. When running marathons, you need two things: clothes and running shoes. Buying running shoes can get complicated. First you would need to consider your foot type, foot strike and stride pattern. You can consult a podiatrist for this. Better yet, purchase your shoes from a store that specializes in running shoes. Most salespersons there are trained to identify your foot type, strike and pattern and can recommend the shoes you need. Take note that you will need at least two pairs of shoes for your training until your complete the marathon. Running shoes lose their ability to absorb shock after 350 miles.

Most running injuries happen because athletes do too much too soon. Start slow. Establish your fitness base first. You can minimize the stress (or focus) on your knees and legs by doing other sports, like swimming, after running. Be flexible with your training.

While training your should also maintain proper nutrition. It’s as simple as this – “The better you eat, the better you will perform”. Eat complex and good carbohydrates as these are stored in your muscles as glycogen which is responsible for keeping you up and energized. Its depletion is equivalent to fatigue.

Once you have clothes and shoes, you can now start training. Do not forget the importance of stretching and warm-up exercises. Stretching after you run is as important as stretching before you run. Before beginning a 16-week training program, start running regularly for at least 30 minutes without stopping. If that would be too much for you, try an 8-week program to condition yourself better. Most programs require you to run for four days a week. A typical program requires you to run for two consecutive days followed by a day of rest and then the schedule is repeated.

Staying motivated is the greatest challenge when training for a marathon. As I have said, marathons are primarily a mental game. Stay focused, be disciplined and preserve. Then watch yourself cross the finish line!

Fine Dining

I am quite pre-occupied in being healthy these days that I haven’t really eaten out in a while. I would have wanted to be true to my promise to try out new restaurants this year but I haven’t tried new locations in the first two months of the year.

I think I can handle going out (EATING out is more like it) once a month. It’s not good to be on a strict diet all the time, studies have proven that those who give themselves a break actually last longer in their weight loss journey.

So, in that sense, I have shortlisted five restaurants I would like to try this year with my husband, all of them in the same location near where were live. I can just imagine us, enjoying our meal, my husband enjoying a Padron cigar and me relaxing over a glass of wine. It makes me excited!
