Slow Cookers

I have had a slow cooker since 2010 and I have not used it since. I bought one of those 4-quart slow cookers during the Black Friday Sale thinking it can be useful for a mom like me who works from home, has two kids and no househelp. I liked the idea of having to just put all ingredients in one pot and then let it cook by itself – that’s why it was a crockpot!

I don’t know why but I never got to using it. I should break into it soon. We recently moved to a new home and I finally have space for all the kitchen appliances I have been buying throughout the years.

Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker

Slow Cookers are convenient for busy families and for moms on the go who do not have time to hover at the kitchen watching and cooking meals. It’s a great way to serve home cooked meals after a long a day at work and school without resorting to processed foods or worse, take-out food!

There are a lot of recipes you can find online but know that conventional recipes can be adjusted for slow cookers too.

1. Fresh vegetables produce the most desirable results. Potatoes, carrots, onions and garlic should washed and cut in uniform pieces, then placed in the bottom of the crock. Canned and frozen vegetables produce overcooked dishes.
2. Tender foods such as pasta, asparagus and snow peas should be added in the last hour of cooking.
3. Dairy products such as cheese, milk, and sour cream should be added in the last half hour of cooking.
4. Seafood such as shrimp, scallops, and fish should be added in the last 15-30 minutes of cooking. Once the recipe has finished cooking, add seafood and cook just until done.
5. Ground beef should be browned and drained before slow cooking to remove grease.
6. Spices and seasoning: slow cooking does not intensify spices. In the test kitchen, we recommend adding spices in the last hour of cooking.

Starting Fresh

I cannot wait for 2012 to be over – don’t get me wrong, it has been a great year at the beginning. But right now all I want is to be able to get start anew and I think 2013 would be my best chance to just put a huge reset button on my life.

If you are living in New York and have a record of misdemeanor or jail time (even for a minor offense), you can contact a DWI Lawyer Brooklyn NY to help clear your records and start anew. Let’s face it, it is hard to get a job when you have a record, even if it something that you did when you were young.

A DWI Lawyer Brooklyn NY will be very helpful when it comes to starting fresh. Though I don’t need one, I can relate to people who have a past they cannot get away from sometimes.

Dinner Shows & Concerts Post-Holidays

With two weeks before Christmas, dinner shows are farther in between as most would be busy shopping for gifts. There are so many sales in malls that I dread going out already. But post holidays, I am sure there will be a lot of dinner show concerts for couples which feature singers accompanied with musicians using affordable orchestral instruments and family shows.

My daughter and I are scheduled to have a mother and daughter date after Christmas with my cousin and her daughter. We are going to watch the Disney Princesses and Heroes! I am so excited – much more than my daughter, truth be told.

My Favorite Coffee: White Coffee

This has got to be my most favorite instant coffee. I haven’t found this in local stores yet so everytime my brother-in-law goes home from Singapore, this is my one and only request. Some people say that it is too bitter, some say it is too sweet. I really cannot classify it as extremes. I just love that it doesn’t make my heart palpitate so I can drink it three times a day!

Guarding your Health and Appetite during the Holidays

If you have leather wallets at IDStronghold.com, then you have safeguarded your wallet from robbery and thieves especially during the holidays. But there is one thing you should also guard – your health and appetite.

“Everything in Moderation.”

“You can have stuffing and pie but not seconds or thirds–if you REALLY want the pie, you need to stay intelligent–maybe skip the stuffing or sweet potatoes and cut a bigger piece of pumpkin pie.”

PREPARE AND TRAIN TO BALANCE OUT YOUR INDULGENCE

“Everything in moderation, enjoy yourself, don’t go into it full of dread. Especially this year, after this horrible storm we had where tens of thousands of people are homeless, have lost everything, there’s so much reason for us to take time to reflect on why we are thankful, and what we have in our life. Focus on that and you’ll enter the holiday with a much fuller spirit and a much cleaner heart.”
