BBQ Grills

We are in the middle of winter with record breaking sub zero temperatures, snow fall and snowstorms. We are pretty sure that most are having cabin fever and just couldn’t wait for spring and summer to come so that they can enjoy some travel, sunshine and more outdoor fun.

Barbecue grills is a staple for us in every party. We love grilled food and it is just so easy to make. Whether it would be a party indoors or outdoors, you are guaranteed that we will have a grill. We can cook anything with it – pork, chicken, fish even vegetables! That is why we have made it a point to invest in one. We did a lot of searching and finally decided to have two – one that is built-in and one that is portable so we can take them around when we go out in picnics.

The advantage of having built in grills is that you get to enjoy the convenience of outdoor cooking right inside your home! Sometimes when we just want to barbecue some ribs and do not want to be bothered setting up outside, we can just turn on the grill and cook! Plus, we have accessories such as side burners and sear burners, rotisserie systems, cocktail stations, storage drawers and more all in one unit! Outdora has the best designs when it comes to built-in grills. They are flexible to your need and would adapt the design to the space you have. They have Lynx Grills, Fire Magic Grills, Big Green Egg Grills for you to choose from!

Now we got smoker grills that are portable because we love to experiment with food and we all know that smoked food brings a lot more flavor! They use much lower temperatures so you can use them with red meat, seafood, poultry and try new ways to cook ribs, brisket, turkey, and salmon.

Just make sure that after before deciding on what grill to get, you have reviewed your options like:

1. Cost
If you can’t afford propane grills, go for charcoal.
2. Ease of use
For me, ease of cleaning would also be a big factor.
3.Additional features
4.Taste
Taste or flavor of food will be the deciding factor – if you love flavorful food, getting a smoker grill would be more advisable than the natural gas grill.
5. Portability

Dental Woes

It never fails. Every year, around my birthday, my problem tooth aches. I really do not know if I would have it gone or go through root canal and have it capped. I cannot part with it as I love having complete teeth. There have been talks that Orange NJ dental implants are the best, so we will see. I hope my dentist finds an alternative solution to extraction soon.

Dressing Up for Dining Out

Eating out has been one of the most favorite past times of people since commercial establishments and restaurants varied their menus and casual cafes sprouted all over the place. It still pays to make sure you know where you are going so you can plan your outfit. Classy jeans can be paired with a dressy top or a plain shirt depending on the occassion. I suggest you keep a handful of accessories in your bag at all times just in case you need to change outfits in a jiffy. Getting faux sapphire earrings would be an investment – they are classy in formal night out. You can get one at Holsted Jewelers!

Bed Weather

January and February are the coldest months of the season for us. Since I am not used to the cold, it is hard for me to wake up each morning, take a bath and even work (even if I work at home) – all my daily routines are sacrificed. All I want to do it lie in bed and sleep and snuggle. If only we have an electric blanket so we don’t have to bring out as many blankets (less laundry to begin with). One of the disadvantages is that I tend to overeat and feel sluggish all the time.

Top Allergy Foods in Children

Parents need to be informed about allergies in kids and their hazardous effects. I have a friend who has a daughter who a severe allergic reaction to peanuts and everything that has peanuts on it (if it comes in contact even with her skin – no ingestion – she flares up immediately). They have been very careful with her and have informed all communities where her daughter is always at including school and church about it. She also has a medi-bracelet with instructions how to give her allergy relief. You should understand that allergies can be fatal as it tends to block the airways during reactions.

Here are the top allergy foods in kids:
1. Milk

2. Egg

3. Soy

4. Wheat

5. Peanut

6. Seafoods

Controversies in the Sports Field.

The most controversial thing an athlete could ever face is the allegations of drug abuse or use of performance enhancing drugs such as a testosterone booster. Not only is it a good way to boost athletic performance and increase size, but a testosterone booster can alleviate symptoms such as erectile dysfunction caused by health problems. But in the sports field, it would be considered unfair for those who have trained under “natural” methods with hard work and discipline.

More Recipes.

I am trying to cook more at home and since I really do not know how to cook, it has been hard trying to come up with different recipes everyday, especially if you have kids under 10 as your main eaters. Plus, I only cook chicken these days as I am trying to stay away from pork. It has been proven effective as I do not have breakouts anymore nor need an acne pill.

I am trying to cook in batches because I do not have time to spend hours everyday in the kitchen when I need to work, clean up the house and look after my kids, so this one might be interesting. My son loves toppings!

Recipe: Kip Saté a La Mina

Ingredients:

  • chicken breasts or fillet
  • garlic
  • onion or scallions ( I used scallions coz TS doesn’t like onions)
  • soy sauce
  • vinegar
  • ketchup
  • sugar ( I used granulated white)
  • peanut butter

Procedure:

  1. Chop onions or scallions and cut chicken into cubes.
  2. Heat pan and add cooking oil.  When it is hot enogh, add the chicken and cook it to brown.
  3. Once brown, you can either take the chicken out of the pan or toss them on the side as you make a place to sauté the garlic and then the onions or the white part of your scallions.
  4. Season with soy sauce and stir.  Add a small amount of water to cook the chicken more.
  5. Then add a little bit of vinegar to neutralize the flavor.  Stir.
  6. Squeeze in some ketchup to give a sweet taste.  Stir.
  7. If you’re using scallions, now is the time to add the green leaves of it.
  8. Stir in about two tablespoon or so of peanut butter and remove from heat.  The peanut butter will thicken the sauce and will give the soul of this dish.
  9. Serve with rice and some love!

You can top it on plain white rice or side it with flavored rice.  I served mine with Cheddar Broccoli Rice and the flavor is overpowering.  I think this dish is best with plain white rice.  It was a knock out!  Try it and see for yourself.  With this recipe, everyone can cook!

Chubby Hubby’s Best 10 Meals of 2009

I resolve to try at least two of the meals he mentioned, considering two of his best meals came from the Philippines! I undoubtedly would need the best weight loss products after eating.

You can read the blog post here, and I am posting his reviews on two of those Pinoy restaurants: Bistro Filipino and Antonio’s (which is only 30 minutes from my place!)

9. Bistro Filipino, Manila, The Philippines
S and I were an hour and a half late to dinner… not because of the traffic or any other excusable reason, but because S was caught up in the frenzy of exploring all the great local designers in Greenbelt 5. We had SMS’d our friend apologizing. She said not to worry. No one was ever on time in Manila anyway, she told us. By the time we arrived, we were starving and apologetic (S was also laden down with new purchases). Chef Roland Laudico, a friend of our friend, arranged for us to try what felt like a parade of his most exciting and popular dishes. The food, Modern Filipino is the only real way to describe it, was amazing. If I close my eyes, I can still almost taste the sinfully rich but oh so good Adobo Overload he made for us. For a full run-down of the meal, you can read about it here. I’m dying to revisit this very special restaurant. Or better yet, convince someone to open a branch here.

1. Antonio’s, Tagaytay, The Philippines
My favourite meal of 2009 took place in a charming, manor home 90 minutes south of Manila. Antonio’s is, to me, the French Laundry of The Philippines, a beautiful, culinary gem set in a charming rural environment that foodies flock to for long lunches, romantic dinners, and special occasions. S and I visited Antonio’s in August last year (read about the trip here) and we’ve been dying to return ever since. I just need to go on a diet first in order to prepare for my next meal there. Because while the food is fabulous and some dishes are charmingly sophisticated, it’s also heart-stoppingly rich. Antonio’s is one restaurant I’d be happy to travel to The Philippines to eat at every single year.
