Popcorn Snack: Why It Can Be Part of A Healthy Diet

The Health Benefits of Eating Popcorn

It maybe hard to believe that the most popular snack choice for moviegoers can be considered as a super food but it is true – popcorn is a healthy snack for people of all ages!

Research shows that popcorn may not only prevent cancer but it can also help those trying to lose weight. It has been long regarded as junk food but with correct preparation and in moderation, pop corn can give more advantages than risks health-wise.

How? Here are some health benefits of eating popcorn:

popcornWhole Grain
Popcorn is a wholegrain food. Wholegrain goods have been proven to reduce the risk of cancer and heart diseases. It helps to lower ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol as well.

Full of Fiber
Popcorn contains three times more fiber than sunflower seeds. It also balances blood sugar levels; keeps us fuller for longer periods of time, hence stops us reaching for sweet snacks.

Fiber is an important substance for the body that encourages healthy digestion and regularity of bowel movement. Foods rich in fiber take longer to eat; make you feel full sooner and help you resist eating other diet-busting snacks.

A Healthy Alternative

When it’s not coated in butter, salt or fattening oils, popcorn can be a very healthy replacement for potato chips, salted nuts and other high-calorie snacks that are often full of saturated fat.

Did you know? A 30g serving of popcorn is equivalent to one portion of whole-wheat pasta or a daily 30g portion of brown rice.

Full of Minerals
Popcorn also contains Vitamin B, which is known to boost energy levels.

Has Antioxidants

Popcorn has antioxidant properties known as polyphenols, similar to those found in fruits. These antioxidants remove free radicals in our body. Its iron content, especially the yellow popcorn variety, is particularly interesting because iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the entire world. A serving of yellow popcorn has 5% of the RDA for iron, 10% each for magnesium and phosphorus, and only a trace amount of sodium.
Low-Calorie

Unbuttered popcorn only has about 40 calories per cup.

Popcorn is healthiest in its butter-free, air-popped variety.

Benefits of Fusion Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are used to thicken hair or add color, depth, length and texture to your hair. As one of the secrets of Hollywood stars, real hair extensions care has become one of the most popular treatments in improving how the hair looks, feels, moves, falls down and goes up.

There are others ways to achieve hair improvement through adding hair. These include sewing, clipping, gluing and tubing. However, the most preferred method of hair weaving is air extensions through fusion.

The fusion hair extension method became popular because of its painless, non-surgical procedure that lasts only about fifteen minutes, but could provide longer lasting results of up to five to six months. If you wish to have extensions attached to your roots, then you might consider this method to produce a more natural look.
Fusion can be used for either hot or cold fusions hair extensions. While hot fusion uses hot glue to attach the extensions, cold fusion extensions are attached by using keratin-based polymer that is attached to your roots one stand at a time. Instead of heat, this method works by using ultra sonic waves (or rapid impulses).

When applied by a professional, fusion hair extensions will be indistinguishable from your natural hair. Since this real hair extensions method uses no type of heat, they are ideal for people with thin or very fine hair.

If you want to achieve natural looking, 100% human hair extensions that can match your natural hair color, then cold fusions extensions are the best option for you. With these kinds of extensions, you will have longer, thicker and plumper hair than you ever had before.

Hongkong Emperor Seafood Restaurant

We went to Mall of Asia last October 31st for my husband’s side of the family’s tradition of trick or tripping. We all dress up alike (Last year we were vampires, this year we were devils), have our pictures taken, eat and then let the kids play around. It’s a simple tradition (albeit an expensive one since we are almost 20 people). We catch up on each other’s lives and talk about anything under the sun even Materials Manager Jobs and the death of Apple icon Steve Jobs.

We tried this Chinese Restaurant in MOA called Emperor – love the interiors, looks like a very elegant five-star hotel, and the food was delicious!

How to Lower Your Blood Cholesterol

The holiday season is barely starting and we are bound to attend a lot of parties and merry making in the next few weeks. I am sure most of us, including me, will be indulging in good food and wine but I need to try and lower my cholesterol levels a bit so I can have more free reign in indulging. Since I also have fatty liver, I really can’t take medicines that can help lower my cholesterol levels as my liver is already compromised.

So I did some research on natural ways on how to lower cholesterol and I have found these tips:

1. Take three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) daily. Mix one tablespoon of ACV to your morning tea and drink with a little extra honey to taste. ACV is claimed to be able to help eliminate undesired substances from our body.

2. Based on a research done by the New Orleans-based American Heart Association, taking red rice yeast and omega-3 supplements like Krill Oil together daily helps lower cholesterol levels in no time. People with normal cholesterol levels will have a lower risk of a heart attack if they take this combination regularly.

3. Avoid foods with saturated fats such as meat and consume more foods that contain good HDL cholesterol and low fat such as oats, salmon and fatty fish, nuts, fruits, tea, beans, margarine, spinach, chocolate, olive oil, avocado, and garlic.

4. Eliminate stress by trying meditation, biofeedback or relaxation exercises. Stress not only heightens the cholesterol buildup in your arteries, it heightens your blood pressure as well.

5. Exercise at least five times a week. The exercise does not have to be a high-intensity vigorous workout. By spending 30 minutes each day doing walking, dancing, running, jogging, swimming or other fun activities, you are one step further away from high cholesterol levels.

6. Cutting back or eliminating alcohol, caffeine, and smoking should be done for faster cholesterol level reduction. Alcohol and caffeine contribute to higher levels of cholesterol, while cigarettes and other tobacco products damage blood vessels and harden the arteries. If you are smoking, it is the perfect time to try methods on how to quit smoking.

Accountant and Baker Entrepreneur

A friend of mine is an avid baker. It started out as an innocent hobby. She has a sweet tooth and wanted to know how to make the sweet treats she always wanted to eat. So she took a baking class and from there baked on her free time as she was an accountant in a finance firm at that time. Since she would always bake in large amounts, she started giving excess sweet treats to friends and relatives and would give them as gifts from time. Her friends loved it and started recommending her to friends and encouraged her to make it into a business. She didn’t need any advertising as her network was enough to give her many orders. Word of mouth and her free samples were enough. Soon enough she was swamped and baking in her spare time just wouldn’t do.

Now she bakes five days a week and now just has a private practice as an accountant and works with Accounting Principals finance recruiting as a consultant. It is still her first love (she is extremely good at math!) and she doesn’t have any plans in retiring or putting a stop to her practice. She said that accounting is an integral part in any industry. It translates numbers and shows how businesses are doing and what areas need to be focused on, revamped or even scraped. You can be a public accountant, CPA, or even become like her, private industry accountants. Accounting can include a regular day at the office or it can be traveling to different companies to audit or even seven-day work weeks.

French Baker

French Baker brings back so many nice childhood memories. Whenever there were reasons to celebrate, my parents would take us to French Baker and I’d always have lasagna. I saw the restaurant when I went out by myself a week ago and had to try if they taste the same. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. Their lasagna is not that cheesy and yummy as they used to be, or perhaps my memory of their food was just perfect. You can even say I was addicted to it. It’s a good thing that I didn’t need to go to a malibu rehab treatment center!

Tips in Choosing Bed Linen for Your Bedrooms

bed linen

I consider our bedroom my private sanctuary. I really do not spend time on our living room couch to relax, I spend it in my bedroom lying on our bed reading a good book or catching up on sleep. Bed Linen is a fetish of mine and I love having the most comfortable sheets – soft and not scratchy, which feels luxurious under my skin.

Here are some tips in choosing bed linen:
1. Choose bed linen that are of the best quality you can afford. You won’t regret this as higher quality bedding are more durable, comfortable, and well, they just tend to look nicer.

2. It should match your bedroom’s over-all design and colors, but moreover, it should match your personality.

3. Know your mattress’ exact size and bed frames.

Below is a guide to help you determine what size will work the best for your own mattress, prior to going to making your purchase.
