Just like when you’re choosing any other bike, selecting the right foldable bike for yourself should not be left to chance. There are specific things that you should be looking for or inspecting to make sure that the bike you choose is the right one for you. Here are some of them.
Folded and unfolded dimensions
Although most folding bicycles fold and unfold the same way, they still vary in size or dimensions. In order to make sure that what you’re buying fits the available space you have in your home, determine the folded and unfolded dimensions of the bike first. It would be pointless to buy one if the bicycle would be too large for the space you have.
Weight of the frame
Unlike road bikes and triathlon bikes, folding bikes are somewhat heavy. They need to be because their frame material should be thick and strong enough like steel in order to support the weight of the bike and the rider at the hinges. So before you select a model, make sure to lift each bike to see which one you’re comfortable carrying. Remember that part of the reason you’re buying a foldable bike is because of its portability.
Price
Most foldable bikes cost more than regular hardtails, but the difference in price should be well compensated by the convenience in storage and portability of any folding bike.
